Finance with purpose: towards social innovation of cooperative financial services

This study addresses the problem of integrating purposeful finance into financial services in the cooperative sector, related to social innovation and community development. The objective is to learn how financial sector cooperatives innovate socially through cooperative social responsibility principles in their products and institutional services. The methodology of qualitative-qualitative approach, type of exploratory research and technique of investigation through a survey and interview with structured questionnaires to 101 partners and conducted a semi-interviewa senior official with experience in the social management of the cooperative. The results obtained showed a positive impact regarding the social orientation of the cooperative, highlighting the solution of products to real needs, the impact they have on quality of life and the ethical use of resources. Despite important advances in the integration of purposeful finance, there is still a need for improvements in the systems of participation, inclusion and evaluation of the impact of social action.
